Examples of recent successful transactions include the sale of 3600 Broad Street to Meathead Movers for their new corporate headquarters and mini storage facility, the sale of the former Greyhound building on South Street to Quaglino Properties, the leasing of 20,000 sq. ft. of office space to REC Solar at 775 Fiero Lane, the leasing of Avila Grocery and Deli, and the leasing of 13,357 sq. ft. of office space at 2701 McMillan Lane to a local software company.

Derek is fluent in Spanish, which he learned during a one year foreign exchange in Quito, Ecuador following his graduation from San Luis Obispo High School. In 1993, Derek returned to South America with a friend to bicycle through Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador for 6 months on a self-supported tour of the Andes. Derek graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1996 with a degree in Latin American and Iberian Studies.

Derek recently participated as a mentor with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County and is a graduate of the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class XII.

Derek’s wife Melanie is an English teacher at Cal Poly. They have two sons, Diego and Charlie Roy, and are in a rock-n-roll band called The Wedding Industrial Complex. When their work is complete and the boys are put to bed, they abscond to their soundproof underground chamber, where they magically transform into rock-n-roll superheroes who craft aural weapons which they wield on stages throughout the land in the never-ending battle to save the world from bad music.
